Experimenting with new ways to color that I might try on the Ely poster.
After today, and days like today, Its always good to remind myself I draw a really fucking good Batman.
Ely number 2. Gotta up some contrasts and adjust the last panel but overall I’m pretty happy with it.
Ely number 2 in black and white before the color.
THIS WAS HELL. LIKE, THIS SHIT. THIS SHIT. THIS WAS HELL.
BUT IT WAS THE FUN KINDA HELL. KINDA.
Just a quick ely related thought with preview of ely part 2. (which is not even 40% done.)
I’ve been told by past seniors, and from how this has been going so far, that it seems like the ely thesis, is an assignment that tests what you can put out in a limited amount of time. And because that looks to be more and more true, I cant help but think how utterly flawed that is.
We have 2 major classes for illustration, one is thesis and the other portfolio. In portfolio, we get more time to do assignments but in the thesis class we only get one week for finals. Isnt the point of a thesis, to create the best possible work we can, so that it can be our ultimate tool to get jobs when we get out of school? So basically our thesis should be the assignment we are allowed to breath with, but instead its the other way around, between the stuff that gets us target market work, vs the other class that has assignments that arent as important?
Did i just break the art school illustration 4th wall of logic? Again?
Im gonna have a lot more stuff to bring in on my thesis tuesday class, then my classmates are expecting! (Yes Im still fuckin with the spacing of the type. And YES IT IS BEING DONE IN PHOTOSHOP CAUSE I GIVE NO FUCKS.)
Been workin on my thesis all day. If Frank Frazetta still worked on Christmas, I can so work on my thesis on Thanksgiving!
Passing on the best advise I ever got.
I’m sitting here, in terra at uarts, on my work shift, thinkin’ about my ely illustration thesis, and how good i want it to be. I just want the work to be good. I don’t give a fuck if I win, or even place in the ely, I just don’t. IN FACT if by some force of unseen nature i win first place, Im going to take the money I win, and get maybe 10-20 of my favorite people from my Illustration class and buy them all a beer.
Then use the rest of the money on comics and a dog or a cat. Or all 3, cause FUCK IT.
Anyways with that in mind I feel like passing on the best advise I ever got from a comics writer: He said the universe is a deep, dark, miserable place, and the only way to defy it all is to be happy doing what you want to do.
Sitting here workin on my ely now, thats the major thing thats keepin me going.
I did this in my philosophy class today. Kinda appropriate given that its The Question! I was kinda stunned though, I feel like I’m getting faster at makin art. this only took an hour! (White ink washes were an extra 2-3 mins!) YAY ART!
THIS GOES TO ALL THE LITTLE ARTISTS OUT THERE
Just something fun i did today at work.
So I watched the 2 hellboy movies in the past couple days. I love them. Its not comics hellboy, but hell man if its not comics hellboy its a great interpretation of comics hellboy.
And if you know me at all, you know I have a nerd-on for good interpretations of stuff from books to screen.
OK SO THIS WAS ME TODAY.
Theres this dude in my class. We all hate him. Hes actually the most annoying human being i have ever met. Bar none. He loves to make up excuses for not doing his work on time (he didnt do the first thesis, or the previous assignment that we had over 3 fuckin weeks to do) And today we all literally had it. The teacher had it too. This guy has no idea what illustration is. he has no concept of deadlines, respect for teachers, in class manors, ect.
And today he picked the day to do all of those x10. And I was sooooooo close to becoming a human volcano. There just needs to be a special kind of person to get me mad, and he just happens to be all of those things. So i drew this and my section had a grand laugh.
